How to use a Dry Hair Treatment by Porosity Type

1. Low Porosity

Low porosity hair doesn’t absorb moisture easily. Because of this it’s vital to avoid overloading the hair. Be sparing with products and try a layering technique by applying small amounts at a time.

Start with less product, let the hair absorb it for a few seconds and then layer on more product if needed. Too much product can leave hair flat so take note of how much product you use and adapt depending on how your hair responds.

I recommend a weekly treatment with Restore and Shine Hair Masque. After use, you should notice more body in your hair as well as a smoother, more slippery texture. That means your hair has absorbed the mositure and the smoother texture will leave your hair shiny and feeling hydrated.

2. Normal Porosity

Normal porosity hair easily absorbs moisture and, most importantly, can retain moisture.

However, without regular treatments and a good hair care routine even normal porosity hair can become dry.

Condition your hair regularly and incorporate a weekly dry hair treatment into your hair care routine. Restore and Shine Hair Masque is a concentrated dry hair treatment. That means you don’t need much product to help maintain the healthy hair. You can use a single application once a week. A small amount is all you need for maintenance. There’s no need to layer on lots of product or leave it on for a long time.

After application, rinse after a few minutes.

If you hair is excessively dry, you can apply Restore and Shine Hair Masque twice weekly for the first two weeks and then revert to a weekly routine of deep conditioning.

Think about routine and maintenance to keep your hair hydrated.

3. High Porosity

High porosity hair absorbs moisture well but needs a lot of moisture.

The more time you can leave your hair treatment on will massively help high porosity hair. It’s all about giving your hair a deep treatment.

I recommend leaving Restore and Shine Hair Masque on your hair overnight. Don’t be tempted to layer on too much product; it isn’t necessary.

Simply leave it on for longer and give the hair mask more time to leave your hair silky smooth and shiny.

Check the manufacturer’s instructions if you are using an alternative dry hair treatment.

As with all hair types, routine is vital. Weekly treatments will help your hair stay hydrated. Once in a routine, you’ll find your hair needs less moisture over time as the condition improves and the dryness reduces.

Dry Hair | 5 Essential Tips

With regular dry hair treatments, your hair should become silkier, shinier and easier to manage. Keep it looking that way with help from my 5 essential tips

Keep your hair looking and feeling fresh with my 5 essential tips.

1. Trim Split Ends

Trim hair regularly to remove split ends. Split ends can ride up the shaft and damage the hair.

When hair is damaged and split it can’t retain moisture.

Hair will become dry and develop a rough texture, losing shin. Keeping on top of split ends will prevent damage to the rest of the hair.

I recommend a trim every 6-8 weeks.

2. Go for Professional Colour Treatments

Colour treatments are designed to damage your hair. The treatment opens up the cuticle to change the colour pigment of your hair.

If you colour your hair, I recommend getting it done professionally.

If that’s not possible, then the best advice I can give is not to overlap the colour on hair that has already been colour treated.

I recommend a semi-permanent colour on your ends. It’s less drying for the hair, and semi-permanent colours are formulated to add shine.

If you are unsure about colouring your hair at home, or you are concerned that your hair is damaged, always get advice from a colourist.

3. Look for Moisture-Boosting Hair Care Ingredients

Choose the right product for your hair type. If your products aren’t working for you it’s time to shop around.

Forget the marketing hype on the front of the product packaging.

Take a look at the ingredients on the back of the packaging.

Look out for super-moisturising ingredients such as pro vitamin b5, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol ( a fatty alcohol, an ingredient that will boost moisture not deplete it.) or tocopherol (vitamin e).

These are the ingredients that you will find in good quality skin care.

Your hair needs them too. They are the building blocks in my Restore and Shine Hair Masque formulation and together they add moisture to dry hair whilst smoothing the cuticle to help the hair retain moisture.
Dry Hair is not something we have to put up with.

By taking some time to understand your hair and how it responds to dry hair treatments, you can build a routine that gives your hair the moisture it needs. Short-term fixes for dry hair rarely work and by taking a routine based approach you can transform dull or rough dry hair to silky smooth, shiny hair.

I’ve summarised the key points below.

1. Understand your Hair: Check your hair porosity to understand how to apply dry hair treatments.

2. Hair Care Routine: Establish hair care routine that suits your hair.

3. Keep Split Ends in Check: Get regular trims to prevent split ends riding up the hair and damaging the cuticle, resulting in moisture loss and leaving the hair dry.

4. Look for Moisture-Boosting Ingredients: Look out for super-moisturising ingredients such as pro vitamin b5, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol ( a fatty alcohol, an ingredient that will boost moisture not deplete it.) or tocopherol (vitamin e).

5. Go light on Styling: Choose lighter styling products that add moisture to your hair and try out less drying styling techniques.

6. Use a Dry Hair Treatment once a week:  Use Restore and Shine Hair Masque once a week for a deep conditioning, dry hair treatment.
